John Stones signed for Manchester City this week, although it has prompted Everton to start signing players and that includes Ashley Williams from Swansea.

Williams is proven class at Premier League level and could strike up a fantastic partnership with Lamine Kone, with the Sunderland defender also rumoured to be arriving at the club.

Ronald Koeman is determined to improve this Everton team who most feel underperformed last term, with Kevin Mirallas, Ross Barkley and Gerard Deulofeu impressing during pre-season.

Koeman has previously done excellently at Southampton on smaller resources so you’d imagine he can produce results at the Merseyside club, although Tottenham will clearly be tough nuts to crack.

Mauricio Pochettino is another manager who enjoyed a prize role on the basis of his work at St Mary’s, with the Argentine engineering a title challenge last term which only broke down right at the death.

Harry Kane remains one of the sharpest shooters in the top flight, with Dele Alli open to improvement and Erik Lamela potentially about to have an even better campaign.

Defensively, Spurs are strong and probably won’t lose too many matches this term. However, they might struggle to overcome an Everton side who might boast a new-look defence and it’s expected that Romelu Lukaku will be back to trouble international team-mates Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen.
