Things were looking grim for France at half-time against Republic of Ireland, with Les Bleus trailing 1-0 and tempers were flared in the hosts dressing room.

However, Didier Deschamps decided to switch formation and a 4-2-3-1 set-up saw Antoine Griezmann cause untold problems for a French side who now line up against Iceland in the last eight.

The Atletico Madrid forward enjoyed a vintage season for his club and now occupies that lone forward position, with Olivier Giroud dropping a little deeper and he’s likely to be flanked by Dimitri Payet and Kingsley Coman.

It means that Griezmann probably rates as the best First Goalscorer bet against Iceland, with the striker likely to be on penalty duties and it’s worth noting that the Icelanders conceded a spot kick against England in the previous round.

Iceland rallied to lead 2-1 before defending stoutly and causing problems for an English side who were left to falter and struggled to create chances.

They won’t be easily beaten in Paris and France’s odds to win the game are ridiculously short considering Les Bleus have essentially scrambled past Romania, Albania and Ireland.

Iceland will be well-drilled and stand on the verge of something extra special, even if the England media would have you believe that they have already reached a pinnacle by beating the Three Lions.

However, with Paul Pogba shining for France and Payet able to deliver the ball on a sixpence, it all points to Griezmann breaking the deadlock.
