The outright favourites to win Euro 2016 are the side that didn’t qualify for Euro 2016, with France appearing as hosts and something of an unknown quantity.

We know that Les Bleus reached the last eight of the 2014 World Cup and have a stronger squad this time around along with home advantage.

The absence of Karim Benzema shouldn’t be keenly felt considering Olivier Giroud is looking sharp, Antoine Griezmann is one of the Europe’s most lethal finishers and Kingsley Coman is developing into one of the world’s best young players.

The recent 3-2 friendly win over Cameroon highlighted how exciting this France team happens to be, even if there are defensive question marks. However, Didier Deschamps has time to address this and perhaps Romania won’t pose too many problems for the hosts.

Lassana Diarra or N’Golo Kane will operate in that defensive midfield role in front of the back four, with Adil Rami joining Laurent Koscielny in central defence, although this France team really sings when roving forward.

Coman and Anthony Martial are both tremendously exciting talents, with Blaise Matuidi and Paul Pogba likely to run the show in the middle of the park.

Romania will adopt a cagey approach, having finished second in qualifying behind Northern Ireland and there really isn’t too much to like about a side who conceded just two goals in qualifying.

No player in the squad has managed more than ten goals for their country, with the talented Fiorentina keeper Ciprian Tătărușanu likely to be heavily involved between the sticks.
