There’s an early 12.45pm start at Windsor and Richard Hannon is double-handed in the opening 6f maiden auction, with bookmakers favouring his newcomer Premier Currency at around the 3/1 mark. He should know his job, but he’s not bred to be anything special and his stablemate GROUND CONTROL has the edge in both fitness and experience, having finished fifth at Salisbury on his debut. He would have finished closer had he not given his rivals a start by walking out of the stalls and he’s sure to have been well schooled since. At 6/1 he’s value to win a race his stable landed 12 months ago.

Hannon could well double up with FRANCISCO in the extended 5f handicap (2.20pm). It was only a 7f maiden he won on his reappearance at Lingfield late last month, but he showed a determined attitude to make all by a diminishing, narrow margin, and his natural speed suggests the drop back in trip won’t be a problem. A half-brother to the speedy and talented Edge Closer, he could well develop into a decent three-year-old sprint handicapper and is making his handicap debut off what looks a very workable mark of 81.

Richard Hughes rides and he had this to say about the horse in his Saturday column: “He’s dropping back from seven furlongs, but we think he’s quick and probably on a good mark as well. I think he’ll win.” That’ll do for me!
