Cheshire-based Tom Dascombe is always to be feared at Haydock and his juveniles in particular have been highly profitable to follow, with his 30 winners (from 184 runners, 16%) yielding a very healthy £58.61 profit to £1 level-stakes.

He runs two in the 7f nursery on the card and Dark Thunder, who is the mount of stable jockey Richard Kingscote, is preferred in the betting to stablemate ICONIC CHOICE, but I reckon the latter filly is the one to be on over this trip. She’s a value price too.

Granted, she was disappointing on her only previous try over it, finishing a well beaten fourth of the eight runners over this track and trip two starts back. However, she was a bit too keen for her own good on that occasion and, still looking green, she didn’t help her cause either by hanging right and racing out wide.

Previously, she had been a ready winner over 6f at Newbury, seeing out that contest well, and she again gave the impression she would be suited by moving up a furlong when a keeping-on third of eight in a 6f nursery at Hamilton last Saturday.

Out of a 7f-1m winner, she has to be worth another chance this evening off what looks a winnable mark of 75, given the two horses she beat at Newbury are now rated higher, and with Liam Jones (2-7 on the stable runners) getting the leg up.

Stablemate Dark Thunder has to be respected but his pedigree is all about speed and both his big-race entries are over 6f. Indeed, a bigger danger to the selection looks to be Xtara, who was a rallying third of 11 in a 7f Newmarket nursery on his most recent start.
