There have been five stand-out teams in the Championship this season and two of them meet on Friday evening for an opportunity to be top of the table.

Hull already have that privilege after landing ten wins from their seventeen matches played so far. The Tigers are unbeaten at the KC Stadium and a recent 3-0 win over Middlesbrough illustrates that this is a seriously tough team to beat on their own patch.

Curtis Davies and Abel Hernandez are likely to return to the starting XI, with City lacking that cutting edge at Bristol City last week where a 1-1 draw was played out, while Derby were busy closing the gap with a 2-0 win over Cardiff.

The Rams have lost just once on the road this term, losing at the City Ground after Nottingham Forest took an early lead against their arch-rivals before pulling up the drawbridge.

The bottom line is that Paul Clement has been able to spend the sort of mega bucks that make Derby a Premier League side in the making, with Bradley Johnson and Thomas Ince the most notable signings of a busy summer. Johnson is suspended for this clash, although Richard Keogh and Jason Shackell form a strong rearguard in front of Scott Carson and it’s hard to believe this match will be anything other than low-scoring.

Only three goals have been scored against Hull at the KC Stadium this season, with a goalless draw an outcome that neither team would be too displeased about even if it gives the likes of Middlesbrough, Burnley and Brighton the chance to capitalise.
