Betting Tip: Hungary +2.00 @ 5/8 with ladbrokes

There’s no rhyme or reason why Portugal should be 2/5 to win Wednesday evening’s clash in Lyon, while Hungary are also vastly overpriced at 11/1.

Let’s look at the evidence from the two games both sides have played. Portugal have drawn their games against Iceland (1-1) and Austria (0-0). They might have dominated possession in both matches and created an abundance of chances, although the bottom line is that they’ve had two bites of the cherry and failed.

Cristiano Ronaldo might be one of the world’s best players but football is a team game and his team-mates seem so pre-occupied with trying to find the Real Madrid star that it’s getting in the way of the right results.

Ronaldo was actually culpable from the penalty spot against the Austrians and will be out to right that wrong against Hungary. However, perhaps he’s guilty of trying too hard for his country and the Hungarians won’t be a pushover in this game.

The Magyars surprised everyone by winning against Austria and they then landed a 1-1 draw against Iceland which puts them through to the last sixteen already.

Therefore, there is little pressure on them for this game although that can sometimes be a good thing. Portugal would actually exit the tournament if they lose this game and that means that they’ll be the ones having to come forward to get the right result.

At the very least, we can get with Hungary on the handicap market. The thinking that Portugal are going to tear their opponents apart seems a little misguided considering the results in the group to date.
