Dan Skelton also runs Magic Magnolia in the mares’ handicap hurdle (8.45pm) and she is very much respected having won on her previous starts at Stratford. However, her overall record of 1-12 tells you she is no stable star and I’d rather take a chance on Harry Fry’s WELCOMETOTHEJUNGLE coming good on what is just her second start in handicap company.

The seven-year-old showed considerable promise in bumpers, finishing a close third on a couple of occasions, and ran her best race over hurdles when third again behind Makadamia at Exeter in May of last year. All of those runs came on good ground or faster and she can therefore be excused a couple of more recent modest efforts when the ground was riding soft. She’s been dropped 4lb as a result and looks potentially well treated here on a mark of 101.

There’s a chance she might need this after a 178-day absence but her stable is going well, sending out Shuil Royale to win the feature at the last meeting here, and Fry has a highly respectable 33% (2-6) strike rate at the track over the last five seasons. Noel Fehily, who has a 27% strike rate on the yard’s runners, takes the ride.
