It can often pay to take note of a significant jockey booking and both of today’s bets are part selected on account of who is riding.

First up is the Paul D’Arcy-trained SPRING LOADED, who is lining up in division 1 of the 6f handicap at Kempton this evening (due off 8.10pm) under John Egan. The jockey has ridden the three-year-old on his last three starts and his mount has shown progressive form, culminating in a career-best effort at Ascot last time when beaten three-quarters of a length after a four-month layoff.

The gelding is likely to strip much fitter for that effort and his trainer looks to have found him a good opportunity to go one better at a track he has shown a liking for previously, with his form figures over course and distance reading an impressive 1312.

He’s been raised 1lb for his Ascot effort, but he still looks well treated on a mark of 79, considering he finished second here off 3lb higher last September, and he’s Egan’s only the ride of the evening. He may have most to fear from the other three-year-old to have won over track and trip, Belvoir Diva, but the selection looks better drawn in stall one.
