Jim Crowley rides the majority of his winners at the Surrey venue – 148 to be exact over the past five seasons – and he gets on well with the Keith Dalgleish-trained SALVATORE FURY, who looks sure to appreciate the return to Polytrack in the second division of the 6f handicap (8.40pm).

The five-year-old has been running well on turf of late and looked unlucky not to score over this trip at Carlisle two starts back when fitted with first-time visor. He was beaten only a head by Ypres, who hampered him at a vital stage and did well to keep the race at the subsequent Stewards’ Enquiry.

He failed to reproduce that effort at Hamilton last time, but he’s looked far happier on an artificial surface in the past and has form figures here of 1249, with the win coming over this distance. His most recent success came at Lingfield in April off just 3lb lower under Crowley, who has achieved figures of 1241 on board.

It’s a competitive race this evening and you can make a case for several with Michael Wigham’s Elis Eliz preferred by bookmakers. A consistent sort, he should again give a good account, but he gets no respite from the handicapper and the selection looks well worth an interest at a double-figure price with plenty in his favour – selection finished second at 12/1.
