Two defeats and two draws have temporarily derailed Middlesbrough’s promotion charge, although Aitor Karanka’s team are still well-placed to land a place in the promised land of the Premier League.

Win at Elland Road on Monday night and Boro go top of the Championship with sixteen games remaining and they will have a four-point gap over Burnley and Brighton in third and fourth place.

However, victory looks far from certain. Middlesbrough have won half of their away games although the last two road trips have seen a defeat at Bristol City followed by a 1-1 draw at MK Dons.

Leeds have not been pulling up trees at home this season although they have avoided defeat in nine of their fifteen games at Elland Road. Steve Evans will have them fired up for this derby of sorts.

United have lost just one of their previous four games, being edged out at home to Nottingham Forest although Toumani Diagouraga has recently arrived to solidify the midfield, even if Sam Byram has left for West Ham.

That reverse against the Tricky Trees was the first reverse at Elland Road in seven games, with Hull among those teams beaten and Leeds also took the lead against Derby before being pegged back.

Quite simply, this will be a closer game than the odds suggest and we’re happy to side with an underdog in the Championship who are playing at home in front of a big crowd. Especially as the opposition have questions to answer.
