Steve McClaren was finally packed off by Newcastle United, with the manager having failed spectacularly despite being given a huge war chest during the course of the season.

Rafael Benitez has taken charge and it’s not the timing that Leicester City would have wanted, with the Magpies squad likely to respond to the Spaniard’s fresh approach.

Benitez’s remit is simple. Keep United afloat in the Premier League and there certainly won’t be an attacking approach on Monday night against the league leaders.

A point would represent a massive boost for Newcastle’s survival hopes although the former Liverpool manager will have had just a couple of days to work with his new charges who have not had much to celebrate this term.

Leicester have been impressive all season and should still prove too strong for Newcastle over the ninety minutes, although it won’t necessarily be as easy as a Magpies side still managed by McClaren.

Indeed, the Foxes might have to be patient before finding the breakthrough as was the case against Norwich recently.

Riyad Mahrez is likely to be targeted by the visitors, although there’s enough about the home side to get over the line here.
