It’s pretty uninspiring stuff today if I’m being honest but I may well be tempted to open my wallet for the Bryan Smart-trained MYTHMAKER, who is nap material when he runs in the 6f handicap at Lingfield (due off 2.50pm).

The four-year-old son of Major Cadeaux has won three times on turf and will surely pick up a race or two on an artificial surface too judging on his three previous efforts, with the likelihood of better to come.

He was runner-up over this course and distance on his all-weather debut in November and while only fifth on his next run at Wolverhampton, that was in a hot race and he still managed to briefly lead the field approaching the final furlong before weakening.

Last time, back over today’s track and trip, he was ridden to hold his place from halfway in a moderately run race, but he dug deep and fairly flew home to almost collar the idling winner, who held on by a neck.

The handicapper has been kind in leaving him on the same mark and with every likelihood this race will be run at a more even tempo with a couple of confirmed front-runners in the field, he can get his head in front under Paul Mulrennan, who has won on him previously.
