El Clasico is a fixture that always provides punters with a feast of excellent odds and, in recent times, two superstars have dominated proceedings.

The personal battle for supremacy between Ballon d’Or winners Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo has been the backdrop for Barcelona and Real Madrid’s bitter duels since the latter arrived at the Bernabeu.

Majestic Messi may be just two ahead of rival Ronaldo in La Liga’s top scorer chart for this term, but who holds the advantage in El Clasico clashes?

It should be no surprise that Argentina phenomenon Messi is the leading marksman in the history of this thrilling fixture.

The terrific talent has struck 21 times against Los Blancos, so Bet365 are offering a best market price of 7/2 for pass-master Messi to rile Real again by netting first at the Nou Camp.

Marvellous Messi’s fast thinking and quick feet always cause problems for Real’s rearguard, which he last breached at the Bernabeu in 2014. After hitting a heroic hat-trick on that occasion, the diminutive danger man is 10/3 with William Hill to bag a brace or better again.

Ronaldo should not be discounted, however, and has had to play catch up in El Clasico since joining Real five seasons after Messi first emerged on the first-team scene for the Catalans.

Rampant Ronaldo has racked up 14 against Madrid’s main enemy, and could easily catch up to Los Blancos legend Raul, who hit 15 against Barcelona in his time at the Spanish capital club.

At 6/1 with Coral to break the deadlock, or 7/4 to strike anytime, the Portugal skipper is an excellent punt to punish Barca and equal Raul’s record.

If Ronaldo is in full flight, Madrid at 10/3 to triumph looks a smart choice with Sky Bet, as the Los Blancos talisman has eight from his last seven trips to the Nou Camp across all competitions.

This could be the root of Real’s problems, however, with their superstars all seemingly fixated on personal rewards and results reliant on Ronaldo.

Messi, meanwhile, is easily in the best form of the two at the moment, with five in his past three outings, plus an inspirational performance against Manchester City.

The influential Argentine is also part of an on-song trio with fellow forwards Neymar, who is 6/5 to score anytime with Coral, and Luis Suarez, with whom he has developed an exciting understanding and team ethic.
