Some people say “the formbook goes out of the window” when it comes to derby matches although it’s not really true most of the time.

Liverpool are quite simply in a better place than Everton at the moment and we’re not talking about geography considering Stanley Park is the only thing that separates the two clubs in Merseyside.

The Reds have a manager who is making things happen at Anfield, with the team having tasted defeat just the once since early February and that was a 3-2 reverse at St Mary’s after taking a 2-0 lead.

The last three matches have been wins over Stoke, Borussia Dortmund and Bournemouth, with the team scoring ten goals and hungry for more against opponents who are playing defensively after a largely mediocre season.

Everyone says that Everton should be challenging for the top six although there is little reason why. They have a manager who seems positively delusional and a defence that doesn’t keep too many clean sheets.

Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku were rested for Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Southampton although even their return shouldn’t signal anything other than a defeat for the visitors.

Liverpool have excellent team spirit at the moment, something that was in evidence when they came back against Dortmund and beating the German side over two legs was a pretty outstanding achievement.
