After 120 minutes and penalties at Wembley, Liverpool and Manchester City meet again on Wednesday.

City supporters will only just have recovered from their hangovers after celebrating their team’s Capital One Cup success long into the night, although Manuel Pellegrini will hope that the triumph can now propel the team towards Premier League glory.

Manchester City are nine points off leaders Leicester with a game in hand and can’t afford to drop too many points if they are to reel in the three teams above them.

It’s not going to be an easy clash against Liverpool although the visitors do have more squad depth, with Wilfried Bony, Jesus Navas, Aleksandar Kolarov, Joe Hart and Pablo Zabaleta among those players who can come into the side.

Liverpool don’t have that luxury and Jurgen Klopp might be loathe to risk Daniel Sturridge after the striker recently returned from injury, with Adam Lallana and Joe Allen potentially returning to the side here.

City’s need is greater given that they are in a title hunt, with their opponents sitting ninth in the table and without a realistic chance of landing a top four spot this season.

The toll of 120 minutes before being defeated in a shoot-out might hang heavy on a Reds side who have only won four of their twelve games at Anfield this term, actually conceding more goals than scoring.

Therefore, City really shouldn’t be outsiders for this clash and we’re happy to get with them to claim three precious points.
