Played two, drawn two. That is Jurgen Klopp’s record since taking charge of Liverpool, with the German realising that he has inherited a modest squad of players from Brendan Rodgers.

It’s early days for the new manager who has had little time to make an impact, although a goalless draw at White Hart Lane was expected to be followed by a victory against Rubin Kazan which didn’t actually materialise.

The bookies continue to think that Liverpool are world-beaters rather than an average Premier League team and we should therefore take advantage of the fancy prices about a Southampton victory at Anfield.

Ronald Koeman won’t be worried about the Klopp effect and will remind his players about that 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge. Sadio Mane played a blinder that day and could enjoy himself in the middle of the park, while Graziano Pelle would probably be appreciated by Klopp right now.

The Saints were two goals to the good before drawing with Leicester last weekend although this served to highlight that they have plenty of attacking intent and they are sure to present Liverpool with problems.

It’s too early to be backing the Merseyside team, with Daniel Sturridge continuing to nurse an injury and Klopp still discovering which of his players are worth keeping in the long run.
