Newcastle United have tried their best to give Hull a helping hand at survival in the past few months, although it appears that even the Magpies’ hapless run of defeats will prevent the Tigers from returning to the Championship.

Steve Bruce led Hull to promotion two seasons ago at the first time of asking and City then reached the FA Cup final last term where they lost to Arsenal in an entertaining encounter.

That final appearance led to a Europa League spot and perhaps those early European adventures are partly to blame for the predicament in which Hull find themselves on Sunday.

Nothing less than victory against Manchester United will be enough to give Bruce’s team a fighting chance of staying in the Premier League. Even then, Hull need a favour from a West Ham team who haven’t won away since December.

Therefore, it seems there is little hope for Hull and the likelihood is that Manchester United will win at the KC Stadium and consign their opponents to a tenth home defeat of the season.

Scoring goals has been a problem for the home side all season, with just 33 managed in 37 matches, although it appeared that victories over Crystal Palace and Liverpool might save their bacon.

Three defeats have followed hard on the heels of those wins and it was the home reverse against relegated Burnley which was the real killer.

United will look to finish the season in style and odds of 5/4 with BetVictor look generous when you consider the Red Devils have won three of their past five away matches, including a triumph at Anfield.

Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao are vying for a spot in attack, with Angel Di Maria potentially involved and Van Gaal might give these players a final chance to prove they have a future in the Premier League.

Sadly for Hull, that doesn’t look to be possible from next season onwards.
