Queens Park Rangers would not have anticipated being in the bottom half of the Championship at this stage of the season, with owner Tony Fernandes recently removing Chris Ramsey from the position of head coach.

Neil Warnock is in temporary charge of QPR, with the London club reportedly interested in hiring Nigel Pearson as the next manager, although whether the former Leicester boss wants to be the latest man to revive their fortunes is another matter!

All of this plays into the hands of Middlesbrough who are solid as a rock at the Riverside Stadium. Aitor Karanka’s team have only conceded two goals in eight home matches, winning six times, drawing once and losing once.

Recent victories over Charlton and Rotherham demonstrate that Boro can routinely win home matches against inferior opposition and the fact that QPR have failed to score in any of their last three games points to a straightforward win for the Teeside club.

A fortnight ago, Middlesbrough were soundly beaten at Hull and away form is a concern when it comes to challenging for automatic promotion, although the Riverside is something approaching a fortress.

While Charlie Austin is back from injury and foraging for scraps in attack for QPR, the bottom line is that Rangers have lost five of their eight matches on the road and will struggle to live with a side who are averaging nearly two goals per home game.

David Nugent and Stewart Downing both offer threats in attacking positions, while we all know that Middlesbrough are one of the better defensive teams in the division.
