I’m staying at Windsor for the second bet in the shape of MOLLY CAT, who makes a quick reappearance in closing 1m3f handicap (8.35pm) following a good fourth at Lingfield on Saturday. She was entitled to need that run, her first since October last year, and she clearly still retains the sort of ability she showed when winning a Wetherby bumper and chasing home the smart Clondaw Banker in a similar race at Kempton.

Lightly-raced since and now under the care of Neil Mulholland, who is making a big name for himself as a dual purpose trainer, she ought to be up to winning a small race like this one off her current mark of 64, with her ability to act on a soft surface proven. She’s not favourite as that honour goes to Oskar Denarius, a winner on soft ground at Chepstow when last seen out in May. That was a poor race, though, and he only got it in the stewards’ room, having looked decidedly quirky during the race and on previous starts.

The Richard Hughes-ridden Shalianzi will get some attention from punters as the race, likely to mark Hughes’ last ride at the track before he retires, is named in his honour. However, his mount has not been sighted since pulling up in a novices handicap at Plumpton in April, and he didn’t appear suited by soft ground when finishing next to last at the same track in December.
