With all three of yesterday’s selections obliging (at 9/1, 3/1 & 5/2) and both of Wednesday evening’s Kempton tips doing the business (16/1 & 7/1), it’s safe to say yours truly is on a roll right now.

It can’t last and the next losing streak is just around the other, but I will be disappointed if NEUTRON BOMB can’t keep the good run going for a little while longer when he contests the 1m maiden at Haydock this afternoon (due off 4.50pm). The three-year-old has already had a couple of runs this season, finishing third on both occasions, and that gives him a fitness edge over his main market rivals Racing History and Erik The Red, who are making their seasonal reappearances. He went off a well-backed favourite at Chester last time, having shown considerable promise when a close third on his debut at Leicester previously, but the soft ground on the Roodeye was all against him and he got tired.

His trainer Tom Dascombe made a very quiet start to the season, but things are starting to pick up now with a couple of winners in the last fortnight, and the stable runners are always to be feared at the Lancashire track. Backing them all blind over the past five seasons would have found 39 winners from 194 bets (20%) and yielded a £1 level-stakes profit of £58.11. The selection, who was put up as the trainer’s ‘dark horse’ in a recent Stable Tour, looks a fair bet at 7/2 to enhance that record further.
