Danny Rose made some unwanted headlines this week with comments about Tottenham’s modest pay structure along with their transfer policy. Hardly helpful ahead of Sunday’s clash and it’s one that the left-back will miss as he continues to recuperate from injury.

Kieran Trippier is another player absent from the team after damaging an ankle, with Kyle Walker having left for Manchester City and Mauricio Pochettino is yet to move in the transfer market as the days tick down.

Make no mistake, Spurs were the best team in England for parts of last season and the triumvirate of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane will help the London club win many matches this campaign although this is a tough opening assignment for Spurs.

Newcastle continue to be managed by Rafael Benitez, one of the most popular gaffers at St James’ Park but the Spaniard’s position remains precarious and owner Mike Ashley hasn’t backed up his claim that big bucks will be spent.

However, there is plenty of fighting spirit within the ranks, with Jacob Murphy having arrived from Norwich City and he will add extra width already provided by Matt Ritchie who had a storming season in the Championship.

Dwight Gayle scored at an excellent rate last season and could go well in the top flight, with Benitez capable of orchestrating the sort of performance that will see the Magpies claim a precious point.
