Newcastle United are the worst team in the Premier League under John Carver, with the Magpies plummeting down the table after six straight defeats.

Admittedly, the opposition has been of a high calibre, with Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool among the teams dishing out beatings, although the players’ confidence looks shot and the fans are protesting against the Mike Ashley regime in numbers.

Therefore, the atmosphere at St James’ Park on Saturday could be a mixture of toxic and rage, with the Toon Army unlikely to witness their team improve fortunes against a Swansea side who have acquitted themselves well all campaign.

Moussa Sissoko remains suspended, as does Papiss Cisse, with Carver at a loss to arrest a slump that was bordering on inevitable as soon as Alan Pardew jumped ship to Crystal Palace.

The Swans have won five times on the road this term and three of those victories have come fairly recently, with the Welsh team landing victory at Burnley, Aston Villa and Southampton.

The result on each occasion? A 1-0 win and that could be the order of the day again, with Garry Monk’s team looking to keep things tight against a Newcastle side who have proven to be toothless recently.
