Norwich City’s return of 86 points from 46 games played was not quite good enough to seal automatic promotion. Perhaps if Alex Neil has been in charge since the start of the season, the Canaries would have flown into the Premier League but they now have to take their chances in the play-offs.

Norwich are the bookmaker favourites to land promotion although they have been dealt tricky opponents in the form of arch-rivals Ipswich Town. Nevertheless, home and away victories over the Tractor Boys this season suggest they can get over the line in two legs.

We fancy the Canaries to win at Portman Road on Saturday for what should be a frenetic game. Norwich have enjoyed thirteen victories on the road this term which is equal to any other team in the division.

Indeed, it surpasses their form at Carrow Road and a 1-0 home reverse is the only time they have experienced defeat in the past eleven matches, with seven of them resulting in a win.

A 4-2 win against Fulham warmed things up nicely last weekend, with Bradley Johnson enjoying a purple patch which has seen the former Leeds man enjoy eight goals since the middle of February.

Player for player, Norwich are superior to Ipswich, who have done remarkably well to finish in the top six with much slimmer resources.

Ipswich’s home form can’t be knocked and they are unbeaten in seven at Portman Road although Mick McCarthy knows his team can’t afford to keep things tight ahead of a second leg at Carrow Road.
