Dan Skelton is a rising star in the training ranks and has started this season as he means to carry on with five winners from 14 runners last week. His NOTNOWSAM contributed to that tally when hacking up over fences at Warwick from four pounds out of the handicap and the four-year-old looks a good bet to follow-up in this evening extended 2m4f handicap hurdle at Southwell (6.55pm). He’s able to run off his proper mark of 108 here and, having escaped a penalty and getting a 5lb age allowance, it’s safe to say he’s a well handicapped horse.

The selection didn’t go on after winning over hurdles at Catterick in December but has clearly thrived for the switch to Skelton, who struck with five of his 19 runners at the track last season. Indeed, he could be a horse to follow in the coming months as he can switch codes and looks pretty versatile in terms of trip. Certainly, the way he was powering home over two miles last time suggests he will have no problem with today’s extra four furlongs and good ground should hold no fears either.
