Nottingham 2.50 tips - Al can be punters' pal

Betting Tip: Al @ 2/1 with coral

The flat season is coming to a close and time is running out for the turf performers to get a final win on the board.

I’m convinced that the Luca Cumani-trained AL has another race in him off his current mark and he get gets the chance to prove in the 1m6f handicap at Nottingham this afternoon, in which he faces 11 rivals.

The three-year-old first came to my attention back in June when I strongly fancied him to win a Windsor handicap, only to see him finished second as 9/4 favourite. In hindsight he probably found the 1m3f trip on the short side as he’s bred to stay further and he made no mistake on his next start at Newmarket over 1m4f, making a mockery of his 70 rating to win by seven lengths.

Winning by that far was not such a good idea as far as his handicap mark was concerned and he was running off 82 when next seen out in the 1m6f Melrose Handicap at the York Ebor meeting. I still fancied him – I wasn’t alone as he was a Pricewise selection – and it was desperately disappointing to see him finish only seventh (of 18), having pulled far too hard for his own good and not getting the run of the race.

Given a break since and back in class 4 company off the same mark, he is given another chance to show us what I believe he is capable off at this trip.
