It’s probably best to keep stakes small today with much better racing to come later in the week, but there’s just enough juice in the prices of both of today’s fancied runners to warrant a small interest.

First up, JAMMY GUEST could make amends for what looked an unlucky quarter-length defeat at Yarmouth last time when he runs in the 5f handicap at Nottingham (due off 5.20pm). George Margarson’s charge was classy enough to run in the Group 3 Jersey Stakes as a three-year-old and he would surely have won at the Norfolk track had he not been denied a clear run approaching the final furlong, leaving him with too much to do.

Having not won for over two years, he’s plummeted in the weights – he was rated 23lb higher this time last year – and it’s surely a question of time before he takes advantage. He seems to be getting faster with age and was cruising a furlong out over 6f at Nottingham last time, so the drop back to 5f this afternoon could be just what he needs to get his head back in front. Tom Queally takes over from Jamie Spencer this afternoon and he has a healthy 16% strike rate at the track with all his rides yielding a whopping £52.86 level-stakes profit.
