Ryan Moore rides Occult for John Gosden

Betting Tip: Occult @ 7/2 with bet365

The feature 1m handicap can go the way of Moore on the John Gosden-trained OCCULT, who is making his handicap debut after the requisite three runs in maiden company. He is potentially well treated too on a mark of just 75 as inexperience has held him back so far and he is almost certainly capable of better than he’s shown. He completely missed the break on his Doncaster debut, yet still finished well to third of 13 runners, and he played up before the start at Windsor last time, before finishing fourth behind the useful Gossiping.

The penny is clearly beginning to drop and with Moore taking the reigns for the first time he looks well worth an interest at the current 9/2. He certainly appeals more than recent Musselburgh maiden winner Third Time Lucky, who gives him 4lb, and Pacify is likely to need his first start since winning a modest Kempton maiden last November. The big danger is Godolphin’s Muqarred, a winner of a 7f handicap here last time, although he has to prove his stamina over this extra furlong and may not appreciate the forecast overnight rain.

Moore’s ride in the extended 1m1f handicap Top Diktat looks to have it to do, with Go Sakhee preferred, but he should go out in a winner as his final ride of the evening, Accra Beach, looks to have a penalty kick in the 6f maiden at forecast odds of 4/6.
