Plenty to like about O’Meara’s Thornaby Nash

Thornaby Nash should do well this year

There’s plenty of midweek racing to bet on – too much some would say – and a selective approach is required.

It just so happens that both today’s bets are running at Hamilton this afternoon and Daniel Tudhope comes in for the ride on both. He’s riding THORNABY NASH for his main employer David O’Meara in the 6f handicap (2.40pm) and the six-year-old looks well worth an interest at the current 12/1 – be quick mind as there could well be money for him!

Having missed all of last season due to injury, he was entitled to need his comeback run at Doncaster 11 days ago and so it proved as he finished 11th of the 18 runners on ground that was faster but than ideal. That was actually a better run than it first appears as he was trapped wide from stall two and couldn’t get in a blow at the principles, with the first five home all drawn high. The form of the race was boosted when the sixth horse home, Manatee Bay, won at Carlisle on Monday.

Plenty to like so far and the ground will be more in his favour too. It was soft when he landed a soft-ground nursery on his final juvenile start and “good to soft” when he finished second on his racecourse debut back in May 2013. So, this afternoon’s “good” is just about okay and it could well deteriorate from that with some rain forecast in the area on Wednesday morning, getting heavier as the day goes on. Just for good measure, he was O’Meara’s nominated ‘dark horse’ in a recent Stable Tour, which are always a good source of winners.

He said: “He missed all of last season due to injury, but I like him and I think he could do well this year. He’ll run over sprint distances and is ready to go as soon as we find a suitable race.”
