Celtic can take a huge step closer to returning to the Champions League this season with a victory over Qarabag in the second leg of their third qualifying round encounter.

Ronny Deila’s Bhoys possess plenty of firepower capable of firing past their rivals, but face a tricky journey to Baku, where they will be met by tough conditions, so all signs suggest another narrow Hoops victory.

Celtic are a top-price 13/2 with BetVictor to record another slender 1-0 triumph on their travels, as they take a one-goal aggregate lead into the second leg clash, after overcoming their opponents by the same scoreline at Parkhead first time out.

The Hoops’ hopes of qualifying looked to be hanging in the balance in the first leg until Dedryck Boyata’s late header secured the win. Having recently signed from Manchester City, the Belgian centre back has an eye for goal, after scoring during pre-season as well, and holds top odds of 13/1 with Boylesports to net again anytime.

Deila’s Scottish champions recently began the defence of their domestic crown with a simple 2-0 triumph over newly-promoted Ross County, and also smashed Iceland’s Stjarnan 6-1 on aggregate in the second round of Champions League qualifying.

With a promising run of results, Norwegian boss Deila is confident his domestically dominant can restore their place in Europe’s elite club competition, starting off with a result in Baku.

“The game is definitely not won yet,” Deila stated. “In European football this is a good position. If we score [in Baku], they need three. I’m very happy that we didn’t concede against a very good team that was very hard to play against. We have given ourselves a good chance to go through now.”

New Hoops hitman Nadir Ciftci, who arrived from Dundee United for £1.5m, was preferred to in attack in the first leg alongside Kris Commons, and the Turkish sharpshooter is a best bet of 11/2 with Ladbrokes to open proceedings on the road.

Celtic face a stern test against Qarabag, but hold enough strength in attack to dispatch their opponents in Azerbaijan and gain the necessary result to reach the Champions League play-offs.
