Jaap Stam was the surprise managerial appointment at Reading this summer, with the Dutchman hoping to improve on the fortunes of Steve Clarke and Brian McDermott, both of whom left last term.

It’s been a solid start for the Royals who have collected two wins and a draw from their five games played, with the Berkshire side ending a run of four games without a victory by landing a 1-0 triumph at Cardiff a fortnight ago.

Reading are unbeaten at home this term and it’s a record that Stam will expect to continue against an Ipswich side who are typically fierce under Mick McCarthy although there’s been a real lack of goals from the Suffolk side thus far.

Since beating Barnsley 4-2 in their opening match, there have been just two goals scored in four games, although they did hold Norwich to a 1-1 draw before beating Preston by a single goal.

Brett Pitman and Freddie Sears are yet to get among the goals and the loss of Daryl Murphy to Newcastle means that the team are short of attacking weaponry although Tom Lawrence, Leon Best and Jonny Williams provide fresh options.

Williams in particular could be a smooth operator at Championship level, with the Welshman having made an impact for his national team during Euro 2016 and he’s someone who can create chances.

A recent goalless draw at Molineux was testament to that, although Reading could be a lively side to tame, with the Royals having shared the goals in an entertaining 2-2 draw with Brighton recently.

Stam seems determined for his team to express themselves on the pitch despite that leading to a leaky defence, with Yann Kermorgant off the mark at Cardiff and expected to continue leading the line in this clash.

We are expecting a low-scoring clash and we’re happy to back the draw which gives us the 0-0 and the 1-1 scorelines combined.
