The novice stakes for fillies over 6f looks fairly competitive with horses trained in Newmarket filling the first three places in the betting. William Haggas’ Pretty Baby is just shading favouritism at the time of writing ahead of Left Alone and Angel’s Glory, who are representing Roger Varian and Hugo Palmer respectively.

However, the prize might be staying in the north with Kevin Ryan’s GOLD STONE making plenty of appeal on breeding and having looked the part in a couple of starts at two. Certainly, the form of her debut second to Special Purpose looks strong as the winner went on to finish third in a Group 3 behind Free Handicap winner Anna Nerium, and she then showed the benefit of that run when a smooth winner at Beverley on her next and final outing of last season.

Related to some speedy sorts, including Cheveley Park winner Tiggy Wiggy, she has the scope for further progress this term and she’s going to be best suited by sprint distances, which can’t be necessarily said about those ahead of her in the betting. Pretty Baby in particular has a middle distance pedigree and looked ready for a stiffer test when winning over this trip at Chelmsford in October.
