Redcar 5.35 tips - Furtado runner to Instill fear into bookmakers

I read an excellent interview last week with rookie trainer Ivan Furtado – no relation to Nelly – and he provides the day’s best bet in the shape of INSTILL, who is bidding for a hat-trick in the 1m2f handicap at Redcar (due off 5.35pm).

The three-year-old has contributed twice to the trainer’s 11 winners, which have come at a strike rate of 24%. Those stats make even better reading when you consider he didn’t have his first runners until May and it’s clear the Brazilian, who assisted Alan McCabe and Roger Charlton before going it alone this year, knows how to get the best out his charges.

He said on that success: “Placing horse in the right races is key especially when you’re working with handicappers. We like to try and have a longer-term plan with them if they win a certain race or two.” He went on to say that most of his horses were now exposed, but picked out a couple who could still be better than what they’ve shown so far, the selection being one of them (the other was Ski Blast – stick that one in your digital notebook).

You can bet your bottom dollar that bookmakers were reading that interview too and the horse in question has hardly been hiding his light under a bushel, having followed up his Haydock win at the beginning of August at Windsor last time, earning the form comments “Led, headed over 2f out, soon ridden to lead again, clear over 1f out, eased towards finish.” However, Wednesday’s race is competitive enough to ensure we can still a little him at a working man’s price, with champion jockey-elect Silvestre De Sousa – incidentally also Brazilian – doing the steering.
