Resonant is well in under his 6lb penalty

Mark Johnston trains the improving Resonant

Betting Tip: @ 9/4 with williamhill

The Goodwood handicaps are trickier as you’d expect, but Mark Johnston’s RESONANT is a strong fancy for the 1m1f contest (3.50pm) after destroying his Newmarket rivals over this trip seven days ago. With some big stables represented in behind, the form looks strong and he’s well in here under a 6lb penalty with a further 8lb rise due in the future. It often pays to follow the stable’s handicappers when they hit top form and this track has been a happy hunting ground for the trainer, so there’s lots to like.

Several of his rivals are also open to improvement and the best of these may be Sir Michael Stoute’s Darshini, who made a winning reappearance at Doncaster and is just 6lb higher here.
