The Sky Sports cameras are at Spotland on Saturday, with Rochdale hosting Wigan Athletic for the first time since 1999 when the teams met in the Football League Trophy.

On that occasion, the Latics ran out 2-0 winners and we reckon that they can repeat this victory and continue moving up the League One table. William Hill’s 8/5 looks pretty fair about an away win.

You might argue that Wigan don’t look great value considering they have landed just two away wins this term. However, they have slowly been getting their act together on the road, with a recent 3-2 win at Peterborough and a 1-1 draw at Bradford.

Last weekend’s 4-0 FA Cup reverse at Bury can be regarded as a blip considering that it was the first defeat since 12 September, with Gary Caldwell starting to address away form which is preventing them from being fifth in the table.

Rochdale are fourteenth in the table, with Keith Hill’s men having claimed just one win in their last seven matches and that was an FA Cup victory over a Swindon team struggling at the moment.

Tuesday’s reverse at home to Morecambe won’t have helped matters coming into this game and the bottom line is that Rochdale will struggling to hold a candle to a Wigan side who have a far superior wage budget at the DW Stadium.

The class should tell over the ninety minutes, with Will Grigg likely to be well supplied by Max Power and Michael Jacobs.
