It’s hard to see Russia winning Monday’s clash in Toulouse, with the team having lucked out to land a point against England before being owned by Slovakia in their most recent Group B game.

It’s a poor Russian side and their hooligan element will be remembered for their sinister deeds for far longer than the players’ footballing prowess, with Alan Dzagoev a particular miss in the middle of the park.

Therefore, Wales have a fantastic opportunity to land the spoils against Russia and the signs look good. The Welsh weren’t particularly good when losing 2-1 against England but they previously beat Slovakia 2-1 and boast one of the world’s best players.

Gareth Bale should torment the Russian defence, with Aaron Ramsey also a quality performer and it should be noted that Ashley Williams marshals a Wales defence that doesn’t give too much away.

Wales know that a point will be enough to qualify for the last sixteen and will therefore adopt a safety-first approach, although Bale can cause some damage on the counter-attack and the Russians might have to gamble at some stage.

Therefore, we recommend a tentative punt on Wales on the handicap market, with the Reds compact and likely to prey on any opposition weakness.
