bookies.com are sponsoring a couple of races at Sedgefield this afternoon, starting with the Daily Racing Tips At bookies.com Handicap Hurdle (due off 4.55pm), which has drawn a field of ten.

A fair few of them have something to prove and only Julie Brooke’s Carnaross brings recent winning form to the table, having scored with authority at Cartmel just five days ago. He’s able to run off the same mark here and should make a bold bid, but he has nothing in hand over DYNAMIC DRIVE on their Market Rasen running at the beginning of August and Maurice Barnes’ charge is preferred.

The eight-year-old was involved in a driving finish at the Lincolnshire track and was beaten just a neck at the line, with Carnaross nearly two lengths away in fourth. When you take his rider Thomas Dowson’s 10lb claim into account, the selection is 4lb better off today and he therefore should uphold the form.

What makes him really interesting, though, is the fact he’s a dual course winner, with his most recent success coming at this time of year last season off a similar mark. That was following on from several placed efforts and judging by his latest performance he’s coming back to peak form again. Today’s faster ground is no worry either as he’s run well on it previously.

The rest are harder to fancy on recent form, though Footstepsintherain has won twice on the all-weather and has not been disgraced on his four hurdle starts. Vexillum has not troubled the judge since winning a maiden hurdle at Exeter in May 2013 and ran in snatches when third at Stratford last time. That said, he could still make his presence felt in what is a weak race.
