The closing Tips On This Race At Handicap Chase (5.25pm) has attracted a field of eight and they include Bayfirth, who makes a quick reappearance after winning at Cartmel on Saturday and whose 7lb penalty for that success is cancelled out by his amateur rider’s claim. However, it’s doubtful the 12-year-old has found any sudden improvement and his overall record of 1-22 under Rules makes him opposable, especially when you consider he finished a long way behind the reopposing Over And Above at the same track in late June.

That latter horse has been beaten off today’s mark since so he too is discounted and it could be worth taking a chance on KILLIMORDALY responding positively to first-time blinkers. Andy Turnell’s charge has twice disappointed since finishing second at Ffos Las in the June, so it’s no surprise to see connections reaching for the headgear.

As a six-year-old former point-to-point winner, he surely still has his best days ahead of him and this represents a drop in grade. What’s more he’s back on the same mark as when finishing runner-up at the Welsh track and the form of that race has worked out incredibly well with the both the fourth and winner picking up two races since, while the third has also been successful. Brodie Hampson, who has ridden seven winners under National Hunt Rules, takes 7lb off his back and that may prove decisive.

Shady Glen and veteran Dunrob make most appeal of the remainder, in that order, with ex-pointer Longueville Flier, Alta Rock and Getmeoutthedoldrums hard to fancy on today’s terms.
