Sheffield Wednesday are finally threatening a return to the Premier League after a sixteen-year hiatus, with the Owls sitting ninth in the Championship table and currently enjoying an unbeaten run of eight games.

Carlos Carvalhal was relatively unknown when taking charge at Hillsborough last summer, although he’s getting things right and Friday’s 2-1 win at Rotherham sets things up nicely for this Capital One Cup clash.

Naturally, Wednesday are monster outsiders to win the game, although they haven’t tasted defeat all too often this term and will be facing an Arsenal side who will be showing bountiful changes after Saturday’s win against Everton.

The Gunners have a trip to Swansea on Saturday before a midweek Champions League date with Bayern Munich and Arsene Wenger will be wrapping up Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla in cotton wool.

Not that the visitors will have a poor team out, with Theo Walcott, Mathieu Debuchy and Kieran Gibbs among the players who could line up, although it doesn’t look like a straightforward win for Arsenal.

Wednesday have only lost at home once all season and they enjoyed a 1-0 victory at Newcastle in the previous round to set up this clash. Lucas Joao and Fernando Forestieri were both on the scoresheet against the Millers and could pose a few problems.
