With the Newmarket July meeting almost upon us, today’s moderate fare makes little appeal and stakes should be kept small.

That said, there are a couple catching the eye up at Catterick including David O’Meara’s SIGNORINA ROSEINA in the 7f handicap (due off 5.00pm). It’s one of the more competitive races at the North Yorkshire track with 15 set to go to post and that should ensure we get a decent price on the selection, who has run well on all three of her starts this term.

After showing next to nothing in three juvenile runs, she was allowed to go off at 20/1 on her reappearance over 6f here in eay June, yet there was no fluke about her neck success over Bondi Beach Babe, who franked the form when winning at Beverley subsequently. She could only finish fourth on her next start at Leicester over a furlong less but was keeping on well at the finish after hitting a flat spot, and it was the same story when upped back to 6f at Thirsk last time.

Both those latest defeats suggest she will relish the step up to 7f and with just six career starts under her belt, there is every chance she can go on improving. Certainly, she promises to be a good deal better than her current handicap mark of 56 and she carries bottom weight here thanks to Shelley Birkett’s 3lb claim. With her stable continues in rip-roaring form, there’s plenty to like.
