After a paint-drying experience in Dublin, the England squad now prepare for a trip east for their latest Euro 2016 qualifying match.

Roy Hodgson’s side have laid the foundations for a comfortable passage to the finals by winning all five encounters played to date and this included a 3-1 win over Slovenia last November where the Three Lions bounced back from falling behind to claiming the three points.

This match represents potentially the toughest Group E assignment of the lot, although a 2-0 win in Switzerland shortly after the 2014 World Cup illustrates that England aren’t prone to messing up in these type of games, with the defence having conceded just the one goal in qualifying so far.

Hodgson is likely to plump for a similar team to the one that started against Republic of Ireland and that means Phil Jones at right-back, with his Manchester United team-mate Chris Smalling partnering Gary Cahill in central defence.

Theo Walcott’s impressive recent form for Arsenal could see him line up as part of the attacking trident which will feature Wayne Rooney as the spearhead, while Jack Wilshere, James Milner and Jordan Henderson will comprise a robust midfield department to protect the defence.

Indeed, a strong defence is the best feature of the England team right now, with a victory likely to be achieved from taking opportunities when they come along. The 1-0 win in Estonia was achieved with a late goal and a draw from this match wouldn’t be a bad result based on England’s strong placing at the top of the group.

Slovenia look like being in a straight tussle with the Swiss to land second spot behind England, with Srečko Katanec’s side having won three of their five qualifying matches including a 1-0 victory over Switzerland.

Recent results suggest they are struggling to score goals, leaving aside the customary 6-0 thrashing of San Marino which seems commonplace in European football. Veteran striker Milivoje Novaković has a good international record but, at the age of 36, the Nagoya forward is unlikely to pose problems for the reliable England rearguard.

Therefore, we’re happy to cover the England 1-0 and 2-0 wins and hope that Hodgson’s team show enough in attack to breach the Slovenian defence on at least one occasion.
