Cherries should be picked off at St Mary’s

Southampton are averaging two goals per home game this season, with Ronald Koeman’s team continuing with their expansive attacking approach which has seen Graziano Pelle and Sadio Mane flourish this season.

The latter had the night off during the week after getting a red card at the end of Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Anfield, while Pelle was on the scoresheet and he’ll be looking forward to the chance to play against a team who have lost consecutive Premier League games by a 5-1 scoreline.

Southampton are plenty short enough to win the game, although they comfortably beat Swansea at St Mary’s last month and took the customary lead against Leicester before the Foxes pegged them back.

A midweek win over Aston Villa provides a good platform for a match against a Bournemouth team who have shipped fourteen goals in five away games and that’s a worrying statistic coming into this match.

Eddie Howe saw his team lose 1-0 at Anfield in the Capital One Cup, with the Cherries manager scratching his head as to how to improve fortunes. Callum Wilson is a big miss but the defensive issues seem to be more acute than the ability to score goals.
