Southampton are in remarkably good shape considering the exodus of players that has taken place at St Mary’s in the past twelve months.

Morgan Schneiderlin and Nathaniel Clyne were the notable departures this summer, although Ronald Koeman has a knack of recruiting suitable replacements and his team look good things to win this BT Sport-televised clash.

The season began early for the Saints thanks to a Europa League tie with Vitesse Arnhem which saw the English team claim a 3-0 win at St Mary’s before finishing the job off in the Netherlands.

A 2-2 draw at St James’ Park then followed, with Sadio Mane missing a fantastic chance to claim all three points although the Senegalese winger should be too hot for the Everton defence to handle.

Southampton comfortably won this fixture 3-0 last season, with the Saints managing to win eleven of their nineteen home games and even money with Sky Bet looks a value proposition this time around.

Koeman is without Ryan Bertrand in the left-back position, although there are plenty of attacking options thanks to the return of Jay Rodriguez, while Graziano Pelle has scored in all three games to date.

Everton struggled to a 2-2 draw against Watford in their opening match, with the Hornets twice taking the lead only for the Toffees to show character and earn a point, although Roberto Martinez continues to be without Leighton Baines at left-back.

Supporters aren’t too enthused by the lack of recruitment at Goodison Park over the summer and Everton lost ten of their nineteen away matches last season, with John Stones still the subject of fierce transfer speculation surrounding a move to Chelsea.
