After the abandonment of Bangor the only scheduled British meetings this afternoon are the all-weather fixtures at Wolverhampton and Southwell, with the latter track providing the standout bet.

David Barron’s TWIN APPEAL runs in the 7f handicap (due off 1.30pm) and a bold bid is expected. The son of Oratorio is bred to act on Fibresand and made a promising start on the surface when a close third behind Westwood Hoe in an even hotter handicap over course and distance ten days ago. He had four of today’s rivals behind on that occasion and there seems no obvious reasons why any of that quarter should reverse the form.

Graham Gibbons takes over from Luke Morris and that has to be seen as a positive booking as the rider has an impressive three wins, a second and a third from nine outings on the gelding. One of those wins came in an ultra competitive 15-runner 7f handicap at Doncaster in.May and the selection looks well treated today on just a 2lb higher mark with the likelihood of further progress on his second run back from a three-month break.

David Barron said: “He ran very well on his first start on Fibresand and it would be nice to think he would come on a bit for that first run in three months.”
