We all know that Roy Hodgson is going to select Wayne Rooney on Friday night. After all, the Manchester United man is a nailed-on pick in the eyes of the England manager who knows that dropping the 30-year-old is effectively courting a shitstorm in the media.

However, Jamie Vardy and Harry Kane should really be featuring considering they are scoring for fun in the Premier League right now, with Raheem Sterling and Rooney potentially joining them in attack on Friday.

England are a massive price to win this game. Yes, it’s a tough ask facing Spain in Alicante but the European champions were pretty shabby at the World Cup eighteen months ago and they aren’t the force of old.

England’s first XI looks pretty decent despite the usual suspects being injured including Jack Wilshere and Daniel Sturridge. There’s Ross Barkley looking to shine, while Nathaniel Clyne and Chris Smalling are also having good seasons.

For Spain, the main men are Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta, with the Barcelona pair operating differently in the midfield department, while Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas, Diego Costa, Pedro and Cesar Azpilicueta will hope to forget a difficult season in England when they meet up with their international team-mates.

Juan Mata and Santi Cazorla are also involved although the bottom line is that the two teams should be evenly-matched on paper. Which doesn’t explain the difference in price and leads us to back England on the handicap.
