We don’t know the team that Jose Mourinho will field on Tuesday night because he’s taken another vow of silence after some perceived injustices that occurred during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at the Boleyn Ground.

But it’s safe to assume it will be a similar side to the one that won 4-1 at Walsall in the previous round, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Radamel Falcao, Oscar and Jon Obi Mikel coming into the team.

The Chelsea first team is playing pretty woefully at the moment, so their replacements are not likely to light up the Britannia against a Stoke side that had enjoyed a four-match winning run before Saturday’s reverse against Watford.

There are defensive concerns for Mark Hughes, with Ryan Shawcross out and joined by Geoff Cameron, although Peter Crouch, Jonathan Walters and Ibrahim Afellay can all expect to line up for this one.

There probably won’t be much between the teams and, on that basis, it’s worth taking a punt on Chelsea going from bad to worse by losing this match.

The Blues have Liverpool on Saturday and then Dynamo Kiev next week, so it’s clear that Mourinho will not prioritise the competition despite winning last season.
