Thousands of Sheffield Wednesday supporters will be heading to Staffordshire on Tuesday night hoping to see their team continue an unlikely cup adventure which has already seen the Owls claim the scalp of Arsenal and Newcastle.

Carlos Carvalhal is doing a pretty good job at Hillsborough and the team’s battling qualities were in evidence on Saturday as they twice came from behind at Ewood Park to land a 2-2 draw against a Blackburn side rejuvenated by Paul Lambert’s appointment.

Indeed, Wednesday have lost just one match in the past fourteen and go to the Britannia Stadium with a sporting chance, especially as Ryan Shawcross is suspended after being sent off at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.

It led to Stoke losing 2-0 to Sunderland and Mark Hughes’ team seem a short price considering they are missing their best defender and boast just two wins from six home games.

City overcame Chelsea in the previous round on penalties after the teams had played out a 1-1 draw, although five of their six outright wins this term have been by a 1-0 scoreline so they haven’t been able to score in numbers.

Stoke were especially wasteful when missing a hatful of chances at St Mary’s recently and the lack of sharp-shooter means we can get with Wednesday on the handicap market and back them to give a good account of themselves.

Lucas Joao once again came off the bench to score on Saturday and perhaps the manager will deem him the man to start up front, having previously scored in that 3-0 win over Arsenal in the last round.
