Ronald Koeman might have failed to land the signature of Moussa Sissoko on transfer deadline day, although the Dutchman still has an enviable squad of players.

Yannick Bolasie arrived from Crystal Palace and the defence will be better for the presence of Ashley Williams, while Idrissa Gueye provides steel in the midfield area and Romelu Lukaku is coming back to the boil.

It all points to a bright future for Everton who head to the Stadium of Light with few injury concerns. Seamus Coleman is back to fight it out with Mason Holgate for a spot in the first team, while Lukaku’s brace for Belgium against Cyprus suggests he is clicking into gear.

Sunderland were close to a first win of the season at Southampton although Jordan Pickford’s error meant that Jermain Defoe’s penalty wasn’t the winning goal at St Mary’s and David Moyes has already admitted that a relegation tussle is on the cards.

Didier Ndong was the big money signing of the transfer window, with Papy Djilobodji and Paddy McNair representing defensive reinforcements, although there are few Sunderland players that would get into the Everton team.

Everton have already beaten West Brom and Stoke, with that win at The Hawthorns seeing the Toffees run the Baggies ragged with their pace and counter-attacking.

Ross Barkley is looking the part again after a poor spell under Roberto Martinez and quotes of odds-against that Everton win this clash looks pretty tasty considering there’s a genuine gulf in quality.
