Only the Wirral diehards will be making their way to Gander Green Lane for Saturday’s clash, with the lunchtime encounter being televised on BT Sport and Tranmere looking to get back to winning ways.

Having enjoyed a flyer, points have been dropped against Southport, Aldershot, Lincoln and York although Rovers were the better team at Bootham Crescent on Tuesday night and could have claimed victory even after being reduced to ten men.

Three points could be on the cards for Gary Brabin’s side this weekend, with Darren Stephenson set to get a run in the team in place of the injured Connor Jennings, while Andy Cook and James Norwood are among the best strike pairings in the division.

Brabin has come in for a lot of criticism for his defensively-minded tactics, although he has created a largely miserly defence which sees Steve McNulty head everything away and marshal a defence superbly.

This match will be all about keeping things tight and hoping for Norwood and Cook to produce a scoring touch, with Sutton sitting fourteenth in the table and acquitting themselves pretty well so far.

The London side have four wins on the board already, although it has been three straight defeats most recently, with United having scored just one goal and that doesn’t bode well against one of the top teams in the division.

Tranmere have already picked up a couple of 1-0 wins this season and we should expect several more victories by this scoreline this term. If the visitors get their noses in front, they won’t be in the mood for sealing the game compared to making sure they control it and get the result.

With Lincoln, Forest Green and Dagenham having all leapfrogged the Merseyside team, expect a win-at-all-costs mentality from Rovers in this one.
