Swansea were chief coupon-busters on Saturday when drawing 2-2 with Chelsea although this result was a fair reflection of their excellent performance.

Garry Monk wasn’t fazed by the prospect of playing the champions in their own back yard, while the Swans also adapted well when Ki suffered a first-half injury, with Jack Cork coming into the team and playing a blinder.

Monk’s stock continues to rise as he improves on the groundwork laid down by Michael Laudrup and Brendan Rodgers, with Andre Ayew enjoying a scoring debut against Chelsea and Bafetimbi Gomis looking more like a top-class striker in the Premier League.

However, this match against Newcastle does not look like a home banker at this stage of the season. The Magpies were close to beating Southampton last weekend, coming from behind to lead 2-1 before being pegged back.

Steve McClaren has a decent squad at St James’ Park, with Papiss Cisse back in attack and Georginio Wijnaldum arriving from PSV with an impressive reputation. Siem de Jong is also out to demonstrate his quality after a season on the sidelines.

McClaren likes his teams to go forth and attack and that should lead to a goal-filled encounter at the Liberty Stadium, with Newcastle looking as though they are going to retain the services of Moussa Sissoko which is a huge boost for north-east side.
